Thanksgiving Table Place Cards

I forgot to add this to my Turkey Toes blog, but I also made some Thanksgiving table place cards to sit on the table where each person will be sitting.  I added the same turkey (but without the candy corn toes) to the place cards that I added to my turkey toes candy bags.
Finding my idea on the internet (surprise, surprise), I headed to the cemetery to get some pine cones.  There is a place in the cemetery where this beautiful, large pine tree drops the most gorgeous pine cones to use for decorations.  I also have these pine cones placed along the mantle in our living room.
I can feel it......awwwe.....the HOLIDAYS are beginning - YES!

Turkey Toes

I came across the idea of Turkey Toes from an internet site.  Being that I have a few turkey toe lovers in the family, it was a must that I make some of these to go with our Thanksgiving dinner.  Just for kicks, I even made my turkey with candy corn toes.
To assemble the bags, I made my baggie topper to fit on a snack-sized ziplock baggie. I filled each baggie with 1/3 cup candy corn, folded the turkey toe topper in half and stapled it to the top of the baggie.  Easy, cute and a fun Thanksgiving gift for everyone.

Hauling Leaves - Cattle Drive

I posted a little while ago about all the leaves on our front yard that needed to be raked up.  In the picture below, it shows the leaves on the ground plus lots of leaves still hanging to tree branches..
I'm thankful for the warmer weather that has been hanging on because it gave the tree time to drop all its leaves and it gave me time to get them all raked up.  On Friday evening (November 11th), I decided to tackle the chore.  It was wonderful raking the leaves because it was a cooler evening.  I raked all the leaves into the bar pit (a roadside borrow pit dug for drainage purposes. Expand. Also called bar pit, bar ditch) along the side of the road.  I was going to take my pictures on Friday evening but I thought pictures would look better in the morning with the sun than in the dull evening of the previous day.  By holding off though, the leaf piles settled quite a lot and the weren't nearly as big as the night before.
Oh, and don't try adjusting your monitor screens......there is nothing wrong on your end.....our fence is really that crooked.

It was such a beautiful, crisp morning when I went out to take pictures....somewhere close to 9:30am.

And shortly after taking pictures, along came a cattle drive so my husband and I stood in the entry ways to our home to block the cattle from accessing our yard.

And right after the cattle drive, along came my knight in shining armor, on his trusty blue steed, to gather up all the leaves to till into our garden spot.

Later that day, I needed to go and check on a neighbors home and I took a few more photos.  It was just totally a beautiful day!

SUPER MOON

Have you been watching the "Super Moon" the past few days?  It is the biggest it has appeared in the last 68 years and we won't see another moon like this until the year 2034 (18 years).
I found the following photo on CNN.COM...........Wouldn't that have been awesome to have been a passenger on that flight.

The following information was also found on CNN.....

A "supermoon" occurs when the moon becomes full on the same day as its perigee, the point in the moon's orbit when it is closest to Earth.
The term is borrowed from the pseudoscience of astrology but has been adopted by popular culture and astronomers. Supermoons generally appear to be 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full moons. According to EarthSky.org, the moon will turn precisely full on November 14 at 1:52 p.m. UTC, or 8:52 a.m. ET.
Last night, my husband was talking about how bright the moon was so I went outside to see.  It was another one of those awe moments for me.  The moon was behind clouds and yet it was still shining brightly through them and was casting an orange glow among the clouds surrounding it.  The clouds were moving swiftly past the moon giving different views with each second that passed.
I don't have a camera with the technology to get great photos of the moon but from the photos I did get, you can at least visualize the beauty of what I saw.

You’re Simply The Best

I found this idea on the internet and thought how cute this would be to make for holidays, or for any other day.  What a “Simply” wonderful idea this person had.  My friend got me hooked on Simply Lemonade a few months ago and when I came across this on the net, it was one of those totally “I Love This”, moments.  Not only would it be cute and make a quick gift, but the message along with the gift says a lot.  These are the tags I have made so far, but I’m thinking that I just might make a few more generic ones, too.  “Simply” punch a hole in the top left-hand corner of the tag and with ribbon, tie it to a bottle of Simply Lemonade, Limeade, Orange, etc…………………….doesn’t get any easier than that.

Mackay Main Street….Full

Ok, this is something you don’t see everyday.  In fact, I don’t think I have ever seen our main street this full other than the exception of when there was a parade.  I had a meeting in a building at the top end of these photos and I couldn’t find a parking place anywhere.  I ended up parking way down the street, in front of the local bar.  That was the only place I could find.  I knew I was going to be a few seconds late for my meeting but I had to get a picture of this so I made it a few seconds more.

November Horseshoe Tree & Bombay Chest Decorations

Thought I’d better get my blog up for my November horseshoe tree and the decorations I used to decorate my Bombay chest where I sit my tree. I usually can’t find anything that I like as far as decorations go for the month of November.  It seems that most times, Thanksgiving is basically skipped over and the pickings are pretty slim to find decorations.  This year, however, I found some decorations that I really like.  So, lets get started………….

I bought the chest scarf a year or so back, thinking I could use it for the months of September, October and November.  I only used it for Halloween and Thanksgiving this year, but I think it worked out wonderful for these months.  I’m using the same horseshoe tree decoration this month that I used for September and a few of the decorations (tree ribbon, acorns, pumpkin, cattails, rustic tin can and pinecones) for the past two months have also been used again.  But…………I also purchased new items for this month.  First, the tree.  I went to the Family Dollar store in October and was looking around when I found some Thanksgiving greeting cards.  These cards were three-dimensional with falls leaves and different words (Thanks – Blessings – Gratitude) attached to the leaves.  I thought…hey…why not purchase three cards, remove the leaves from the cards and attach them to the acorns that I used in September.  Tree done.

I also found turkey and acorn salt and pepper shakers at the Family Dollar store.  Check……..two more November/Thanksgiving decoration.

I need to jump back a few months, to the month of September when I went to Utah and found my first Thanksgiving treasure.  My daughter took me to Gordmans, a chain of Midwestern off-price department stores.  They carry many different items from clothes, home décor, shoes, jewelry, toys………………  I think my favorite part of the store is the home décor section.  That’s where this turkey immediately caught my eye and so, I made it mine.  I love the patterns on the body, wings, and tail feathers.

On November 1st, my friend called me and asked if I would like to ride to Idaho Falls with her.  Off we went………  My first find was at Jo-Ann Fabrics.  Not a lot or a big item, but enough to add to the theme of Thanksgiving.  I purchased leaves, decorative fall leaves with just the right touch of glitter to give me the look I wanted.  I placed one on my pumpkin and others around the chest top.

And finally, as we were headed out of town, we made one last stop at Wal-Mart, where I found the perfect, tea light, glass pumpkin.  I love how the top is decorated with metal leaves and that the tea light adds just enough soft glow to the desk to make it feel like…..hmmm…can’t explain that one, but the season is here.  Oh, and did I mention that it was on clearance.  Decorations Complete!

I pray that we may all remember during the holiday season (and always), to GIVE THANKS……to give thanks to GOD, for our many blessings and all gifts he freely gives.  It is HE, who truly gives us all things!
