Thanksgiving Desk and Horseshoe Tree Decorations

At first, I just started out decorating my horseshoe tree and placed it on the mantle above the fireplace/wood stove.  Then one time, I decided to move it to the entryway desk and add a few more decorations, tying it all in together.  The past few months, I have added more, and more decorations.
Here it is today, my Thanksgiving/November decorations for the desk and tree.  At first glance after getting it all decorated, I thought, hmmmm, added too much stuff.  But after looking at it each day, it grew on me, so grew on me is the way it stayed.

Heavy Snow & Fallen Electrical Lines

Yesterday morning we woke up to this........
It was so pretty, wet, heavy and deep.  All the trees and bushes were maxed out with the heavy load and most of the morning our power was totally blitzing off and on every few minutes.  I heard my husband leave the house and when he came back in, I heard these words "We've got big problems."  When I asked him what was going on.........well, see for yourself in the photos below.
The hot wires did not come down because of the heavy snow, but just because of an old, rotted out pole that fell on our shop (see 2nd photo below).  My husband called the power company and they came to our home and cut the wires from the main electric pole.  After they left, my husband put the wire away but we will not be able to get electricity to the shop until after the Holidays.
The pole was totally rotted at the base and didn't take much to push it over.

There was very little damage to the shop roof.  Just a small dent - Whew!

Vapor (Contrail) Trails

I have a blogging friend that posted a blog the other day and in that blog, it contained some pictures of clouds with vapor trails (A vapor trail or contrail is a condensation trail made by the exhaust of an aircraft engine).  I have seen the trailing's of jets in the sky before, but not to the extent as the one she had posted.  To see her vapor trails, go HERE.  If you would like to learn more about vapor (contrail) trails, go HERE.
After viewing her blog, I made a comment telling her this: The vapor trail photos are amazing.  I don't think I have ever seen a sky that looks like that. The top photo just had me spellbound.
This morning as I looked out the window, I couldn't believe my eyes.  There it was.....beautiful vapor trails.  They were not to the extent of hers, but non-the-less, I was able to view a sky full.
Like I stated earlier, I've seen a jet trail here or there, but never this many at one time.  It was so beautiful to me that I just kept taking one photo after another.
It's hard to see in the photos, but in the third photo down there are actually 6 trails.  I'm thinking I just had one of those special moments that God placed before me....especially where I had just stated a few days ago how amazing her vapor trails were and that I had never before seen a sky like that.  Coincidence?  Don't think so!

Raking Leaves on a Windy Day

November 1st was a windy day, and a day for raking leaves.  Well actually, when I started raking leaves the wind wasn't blowing too much but by the time I had finished the wind decided to really pick up. As you can see in the pictures, it was picking up a lot of leaves with it, placing them around the already raked piles.  But hey, look at it this way..........it gave me and my husband something to do a few days later.  Right?  What else have we got to do in retirement?!

Hoovers House of Horrors and School Halloween Carnival

The Hoovers House of Horrors is one of the main events that goes on in our little town. On Halloween night, I don't think there is anyone, big or small, that does not go to the Hoover place.  It's all in fun and games, but some of it is a bit gory, it's not the cutsie Halloween decorations, for sure!  This is your run-of-the-mill, haunted house stuff.  Here are some pictures I took on Halloween, just before it got dark.

And the video below is the action I took later that evening, after dark.

Now, a bit on the calmer side and the part I really enjoy, is going to the school Halloween carnival.  I like to go and sit on the bleachers in the gymnasium and see all the cute little costumes the children are wearing.  Actually, there are plenty of grown-ups that get into the spirit of things, too.
