Deer Pets Cause Damage

Looks like our little deer pets have done it again.  They ran out in front of some poor, unsuspecting travelers.  I was sitting at the kitchen table sewing a project when I looked out the window and noticed a couple of young men walking up the highway towards our home.  I called my husband and he said he was out in front of the house and that some travelers had hit a deer.  I looked out the window and sure enough, there were a few cars parked along side the road in front of our home.  Soon after, the police arrived and a fire truck.  Our place is known for deer and a few months ago the speed limit was changed approximately 1 mile from our home making it a 55 mile speed limit  instead of 65.  Why-O-Why, they didn't include our area in the slower speed range, is beyond my comprehension.  Our place is where a large amount of deer are constantly crossing the road, endangering the lives of many travelers.

The vehicle was smashed in around the radiator, making it impossible to drive to town so my husband told them they could park the vehicle on our property until arrangements could be made.  There wasn't any tow services available from our area to help them so they had to call one in from Idaho Falls.  There was also another vehicle traveling with them so some of them went to town while others stayed with the damaged vehicle.

Finally, after five hours of sitting around, someone arrived with a truck and trailer to help the weary travelers.  Oh, just thought I'd let you know that the lights you see in the trees is not a UFO.....it's the reflection of my dining room lights in my window, as I was taking this picture from inside my home.

One Man's Trash

One man's trash, isn't someone elses treasure.  This is the first derogatory blog I have posted but today, I guess it just hit me at the right moment.  This blog is about one of my biggest pet peeves........ LITTERBUGS!  I was out taking pictures today when I noticed that right in front of our home, along the highway, there were bunches of littler.  I just took a few pictures to give you an example of how rude some folks are!  Granted, their trash may be packaged in pretty blues, yellows, or whatever color you can imagine, but they are not pretty out in front of someones yard.  It's beyond me how others can so carelessly toss their junk out of their cars at any given moment.  As I have mentioned before, our youth group cleans along the highways twice a year and you can't believe all the junk we collect.  Bags and bags full.  Basically, if it can fit through a car window, you can find it along the path of some Litterbug. Wake up people!  Trash your own life if you must but please respect the lives and property of others.

Baby Lilacs

When I walked out to the mailbox today, I noticed that the lilac bushes are starting to bloom....well, not bloom per say, but they have little lilac buds, baby lilacs to be exact.  I don't recall seeing the lilacs at this stage in life, before today.  Probably have but just didn't take notice.

Right by the mailbox and under a tree I found the beginnings of some grape hyacinths.  They are such a cute little flower but it looks like the deer have already decided to taste them.  You can see that a few of the leaves have already been eaten.

And right next to the hyacinths, I found what used to be the beginnings of my tulips.  I planted around 50 tulips a few years back but soon found out it was candy for the deer.  Every year I still have a few that try to make their way into the world but never seem to make it.  Deer.....haven't figured out if I love them or hate them.  Love to watch them daily around the house but hate the destruction they cause.  At least they don't seem to like the lilacs.

Wanting to take the pictures of the hyacinths and the tulips, I sat down on the ground, under a bush tree to get the photos.  After taking the photos, my next thought was, ooh, now I have to get up off the ground and out from under the tree.  Mind you, I'm not saying I'm old, I'm just saying.............  I did, however, take a picture from under the tree at the blue, blue sky.  It was beautiful.

On my way back to the house I noticed this little, blue egg under the bushes.  My guesses are that it belonged to a baby robin.  I say belonged, because when I turned it over, the entire top/bottom half was missing.  Somewhere out there is a new, baby robin - Ah-h-h!  Once again, I got down on the ground to get this photo.  But, this time, it wasn't under a tree so it was much easier to get up.  Anything for a picture, right?

Too Big For His Egg

At our school, the first grade teacher has been hatching chickens and ducks for quite some time.  Talk about excitement for the children.  This little duck hatched out on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, and I took this photo about 3 hours after he (I'm assuming he's a he - Ha!) made his debut.

In the following video, you can see the same little duck as the one in the above photo sitting next to another duck that is trying to make his way into the world.  It's hard to believe that the little duck sitting by the eggs was inside one of those eggs just a few hours previously.  He looks too big to have been inside one of those eggs.  Gotta love nature.  By the end of the day, the little guy inside the egg still had not made his appearance.  When I went in to check on him today, he finally made it out of his shell but he wasn't doing too good.  I would have taken a picture of him but he was in his little bed and I wasn't able to get a picture.  I sure hope he makes it cause he's sure a cute little thing.
